FAQs

Starting at just $39,997, our container homes can serve as a guest home to family getaway to bomb shelter to Airbnb or rental property. No matter how you treat this investment it is built to stand the test of Mother Nature (and time)!
So are container homes a good idea?
We feel strongly that container homes may be the greatest idea in home building history. An increasing majority of people realize what a smart idea cargo containers homes are, whether that’s for durability, sustainability, recycling, efficiency, the wow! factor, or lots of other benefits. But sadly about 90% of the builds we see online are done incorrectly. Some of these folks actually do follow-up videos, detailing their grave mistakes.
When done the correct way, we believe container homes are the ultimate evolution of home building. From fire to steel to energy efficiency, our container homes combine innovations of every age of human history, to make the strongest, most fun and affordable homes in the world.
Do these containers have water and electricity?
All of our homes have water and electricity hook ups!
The electrical panel on the rear exterior wall is ready to be hooked up however you like: generator, RV hook-up, hardwired to a meter, solar and/or batteries. For water, hook it up to a tank, a pump, a well, or a water line.
Many people choose to keep these homes “dry.” They use water jugs at the sinks. Then have the water drain out into a garden or the woods, anywhere that’s environmentally safe. Some even just dig a hole under the toilet outlet. These Container Homes are built for luxury, but no reason you can’t go rough with them!
Why don’t these container homes have windows?
The entire front side is made of windows and sliding glass doors. But you can shut the actual containers doors over them to protect them. We don’t cut out additional windows because: Windows = Weakness.
- As soon as you cut into the sides of a steel cargo container, you greatly compromise its structural integrity. Sadly, the world is full of people and companies who learned this the hard way. Windows are a nuisance at best, and deadly at worst.
- Windows are the best way to let wind and water and critters in.List Item
- Our structures are virtually maintenance free because they don’t have windows or extra doors. With added windows and doors, containers become like RVs or campers, and you need to check and reseal the windows on a continual basis. If you don’t, they can crack, rain gets in, and you come back to find the structure destroyed.List Item
- Security. A concern no matter where you are. But especially if you’re leaving your container home for extended periods. With our easy-open container doors and safety locking system, a burglar would have to bring some very serious welding equipment. But if you introduce windows and doors, you might come back to find someone’s not only lived in there, but emptied the place.
Our thinking is: Why give up space, if you’re not getting something strong in return?
The way we build, all you do is lock up when leave. And when you come back, whether that’s days or decades later, it should look exactly the same — no matter what mother nature threw at it.
Set it and forget it.
Can you customize my container?
While we do offer optional add-ons (wood stoves, bunk beds, custom exterior camouflage reeds), we are not otherwise customizing our homes. The reasons are two-fold:
1) Often customizations make the structure weaker, and at Sales@ArkContainerHomes.com we only sell the strongest, stormproof houses.
2) The cost and delivery time would skyrocket. We’ve worked hard to create the best small homes we can. So in order to keep them affordable, we don’t customize on an individual basis.
How many can I buy?
As many as you want. The homes are built to be stacked. Some folks buy a 40 footer, stack a 20 footer on top and then a 20 foot deck. Some folks buy a couple dozen, lay them out in a ring with a fire pit in the middle. Whatever you like.
Do you deliver?
We’re happy to quote you the best price from the transporters we work with. Or you’re welcome to arrange shipping from our facility in Harvey, Louisiana, 70058, yourself. Delivery is not included in the cost.
